Retail Establishment Fines for Selling Tobacco to a Minor

FINES/PENALTIES FOR STORE CLERKS CITED WITH A VIOLATION OF UTAH LAW.
It is against the law to sell tobacco to any person under the age of 19. This includes cigarettes, smokeless tobacco and related products. Violators will be guilty of a Class C misdemeanor on first offense, a Class B misdemeanor on a second, and a Class A misdemeanor on subsequent offenses. These fines could reach $2,500 or jail time.

1) A person convicted of an infraction may not be imprisoned but may be subject to a fine, forfeiture and disqualification, or any combination.

STORE OWNERS
with violations of the Utah youth tobacco laws may receive these fines: (Within a 12 month rotating cycle)
FIRST OFFENSE $300 FINE
SECOND OFFENSE  $750 FINE
THIRD OFFENSE  $1,000 FINE PLUS a 30-day license suspension
FOURTH OFFENSE $1,000 FINE PLUS a revocation hearing
