The Wastewater program consists of the following programs

The Salt Lake Valley Health Departments Wastewater program is in charge of areas in the county where there is no public sewer. These areas must have:

  • Individual wastewater disposal system must be installed and connected to all buildings that generate wastewater.
  • All Wastewater systems are inspected during installation.
  • Program staff investigates complaints received regarding water pollution and penalties are assessed against polluters.
  • Liquid waste haulers trucks are inspected annually and permitted.
  • Proposed building projects are reviewed to ensure they have approved wastewater disposal systems.

Water Quality Bureau

The Salt Lake Valley Health Department’s Environmental Health Division Bureau of Water Quality and Hazardous Waste works hard to protect groundwater and surface water by:

  • Responding to all illicit discharge complaints 24 hours a day,
  • Taking enforcement action when necessary,
  • Reviewing all plans for individual wastewater systems and conducting on site inspections of those systems,
  • Participating in the Storm Water Coalition’s public education efforts, and
  • By permitting all liquid waste haulers and conducting annual inspections on their trucks.

 

Anyone that violates state wastewater laws or rules, or Board of Health wastewater regulations is subject to enforcement.
