Mission
The mission of the Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) program is to protect groundwater and surface water by offering a household hazardous waste program to the community so they can dispose of their household hazardous waste safely and properly.
The program works to prevent household hazardous waste from being disposed of improperly. When HHW is thrown away with trash, these waste products drain through the landfill and can migrate into ground water. HHW is even improperly dumped into surface water or the sewer.
HHW Collection
SLVHD Household Hazardous Waste operates two permanent collection facilities.
The Murray and Sandy collection points, also known as ABOP, accept antifreeze, batteries, oil and paint. Other cities have requested ABOPs and SLVHD staff is currently evaluating the feasibility of opening additional ABOPs throughout Salt Lake County.
