Electronics

Electronic waste (e-waste) is composed of the electronics individuals throw out each year when they become broken or obsolete.

Electronic wastes include:

  • Televisions
  • Computer
  • Printers
  • Fax Machines
  • Scanners
  • Computer Parts
  • Keyboards
  • Cell Phone

Why Recycle?

Electronic products are the fastest growing portion of the solid waste stream in the United States. Electronics are being developed very rapidly and the amount of electronic waste increases each year.

About 2 million tons of electronic waste was discarded in 2005, and between, 80-85% of that ended up in a landfill. Because electronic waste is not easily compactable, it takes up valuable space in the landfills.

When electronic waste comes to the landfill most of the salvageable items are donated to charity, the majority of these items are cell phones. Other devices like computers, monitors, and televisions can also be recycled so the reusable materials can be recovered.

When e-waste is obtained through recycling, environmental disturbance and fuel use decrease.
