What is Household Hazardous Waste?

Household hazardous waste is anything in and around your home that is poisonous, flammable, corrosive or toxic. It includes many of your cleaning supplies, yard care chemicals, pesticides, fuels, batteries, used oil and antifreeze. We cannot accept explosives, radioactive materials, or old tires.

How can I get rid of household hazardous waste?

There are two permanent locations at both landfills in the Valley that accept household hazardous waste Monday - Saturday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Disposal is free for homeowners.

There are also two ABOP centers that exclusively collect Antifreeze, Batteries, Oil and Paint. The ABOP centers are open Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

I am a small business and have 10 gallons of oil paint, how can I get rid of it?

If you generate less that 220 pounds or approximately a 55 gallon drum of hazardous waste on a monthly basis you are considered a conditionally exempt small quantity generator (CESQG) by the Environmental Protection Agency.

The household hazardous waste facility at 6030 West 1300 South can take waste from CESQG’s. Your business will pay the same amount that the County would pay to get rid of the waste.

A business should call (801) 541-4078 to find out what it will cost to get rid of their waste through the County’s program.
