Body Art

Enforcement of and education regarding SLVHD regulations that address the operation of body art establishments. Tattoo, permanent makeup, and body piercing are regulated by this program. Facilities are assigned to a specific LEHS who make routine inspections as well as investigate any alleged violations in their assigned establishments.

Business License

Facilitate the permit application process for establishments regulated by the Bureau of Sanitation and Safety: tanning, body art (tattoo, permanent makeup, body piercing), massage, cosmetology (estheticians, nails and hair.)

Correctional Institutions

Enforcement of and education regarding SLVHD regulations that address housing provided for incarcerated persons. We make routine inspections of the living quarters and respond to complaints about conditions in these facilities.

Cosmetology

Enforcement of and education regarding SLVHD regulations that address the operation of cosmetology establishments. Estheticians, nail techs, as well as cosmetologists are regulated by this program. Facilities are assigned to a specific LEHS who make routine inspections as well as investigate any alleged violations in their assigned establishments.

Housing

Enforcement of and education regarding SLVHD regulations to facilitate the maintenance of at least minimum standards for dwellings, i.e., places of human habitation.
We respond to complaints about housing conditions that may pose a public health risk and direct the responsible party to make corrections, but our main purpose is to minimize health risks to the general public, i.e., sewage spilling over a public sidewalk or backing up in a basement apartment vs. a heater serving a single apartment or cracked window.

Indoor Air Quality (non tobacco)

To investigate reports of problems with indoor air pollution in businesses or homes when the cause is not from the use of tobacco. These are often reported as “peculiar” or “chemical” orders or it is reported that people using the building are getting sick. We have discovered CO poisoning caused by faulty furnaces. But there are many other contaminants that have been found.

Solid Waste Management and Permitting Regulation #1

Lead

The purpose of the SLVHD lead program is to answer lead related questions and access environmental hazards of lead exposure with children whose elevated blood lead levels rise above 20 micrograms per deciliter.

Enforcement of and education regarding SLVHD regulations that address the operation of massage establishments. Licensed massage therapists are regulated by this program. Facilities are assigned to a specific LEHS who make routine inspections as well as investigate any alleged violations in their assigned establishments.

The purpose of this regulation is to protect the public’s health, safety, and welfare by establishing standards, procedures, and responsibilities for the regulation of the occupancy and use of property where hazardous or dangerous chemicals or chemical residues commonly associated with the manufacture of illegal drugs or other hazardous or dangerous chemicals are or may be present; the regulation of the decontamination of such contaminated properties; and the regulation of the disposal of hazardous or dangerous materials and contaminated debris removed from contaminated properties

Public Lodging

The purpose of this regulation is to minimize exposure of the public to any communicable, infectious disease, illness, or unsanitary condition that may be imposed upon them as guests of a public lodging facility. The purpose of this regulation is also to minimize guests’ exposure to unsafe conditions or circumstances that may cause physical injury.

Solid Waste

Enforcement of and education regarding SLVHD regulations that address the management of solid waste. We respond to complaints about illegal dumping and excessive accumulation of solid waste on any private or public land. We contact the responsible party, usually the property owner, and direct them to remove and properly dispose of the solid waste.

Enforcement of and education regarding SLVHD regulations that address the operation of tanning establishments. Facilities are assigned to a specific LEHS who make routine inspections as well as investigate any alleged violations in their assigned establishments.

UICAA (smoking in business)

To investigate reports of illegal smoking inside businesses. There are restrictions on smoking in buildings that are just work sites and business that are open to the public. Sometimes the problem is smoking too close to the buildings as well.
