Oral Health during Pregnancy
Oral health during pregnancy is an important part of maintaining a health pregnancy.
It is recommended that you visit a dentist at least once during your pregnancy for normal preventative work, preferably during the second trimester (22-27 weeks)
.
- Visiting your dentist can help prevent infections and gum disease.
Make sure to let the dentist know you are pregnant because the increase in hormone levels during pregnancy can increase gum swelling.
- Some research has suggested that serious gum disease has been linked to preterm birth and low birth weight. Don't take any risks - talk to your dentist.
