Information about Certified Food Safety Manager and Food Handler Cards

Requirements

  • At least one full-time certified food safety manager must be employed at a food establishment.
  • When replacing a certified food manager, the establishment shall have sixty (60) days to employ a new certified food manager.

To qualify as a manager certified in food safety

  • Person must successfully complete an approved training course and pass an exam.
  • Register at the Salt Lake Valley Health Dept. along with a fee of $15
  • Download Registration Form (56 KB)

The certification shall be valid for three (3) years from the date of issue unless revoked or suspended by the Salt Lake Valley Health Department.

Exemptions

The following establishment types do not require a certified food manager.

  • Risk level one (1) establishments
  • Day cares
  • Health Care facilities
