Cryptosporidium Recreation Water Illness
Swimming is a fun, active and healthy way to spend leisure time. But in the past two decades we have seen an increase in the number of Recreational Water Illness (RWI) outbreaks associated with swimming pools, water parks, hot tubs, lakes, rivers, and oceans across the country and in Salt Lake County.
CDC’s Healthy Swimming program offers information and resources to raise awareness about RWIs and how to prevent them by practicing "Healthy Swimming" behaviors.
Utah is a fun place to be in the summer and water recreation is a favorite pastime for those in the state. Utah has seen illness come from its water; the most common diseases are Cryptosporidium, Giardia, Shigella, Norovius and E. Coli.
Click on each disease to learn about the illness and how it is affecting Utah.
