Bureau of Epidemiology

The primary responsibility of the Bureau of Epidemiology is defined by the Utah Communicable Disease Rule R386-702.

Qualified and trained epidemiologists monitor the health of the community in Salt Lake County by providing current information relating to disease outbreaks.

Some of the activities of the Bureau include:

  • Helping to protect the residents of the county from foodborne illnesses, emerging infectious diseases and other communicable diseases.
  • Investigating reportable diseases.
  • Conducting surveillance activities for diseases.
  • Analyzing and interpreting data to prevent diseases of public health importance.
  • Preparing maps to examine disease distribution.
  • Childhood lead poisoning prevention.
  • Providing copies of birth and death certificates.
