Poorly maintained motor vehicles are major contributors to air pollution which can cause serious health problems.

Reporting a smoking vehicles helps to improve the air we breathe.

Utah Regulation (41-6a-1626.2a) on visible emissions states:

A. "The engine and power mechanisms of every gasoline powered motor vehicle may not emit visible contaminants during operation, except while the engine is being brought up to the recommended operating temperature."

B. "Diesel engines manufactured on or after January 1, 1973, MAY NOT EMIT visible contaminants of a shade or density darker than 20% opacity, except while the engine is being brought up to recommended operating temperature." "Diesel engines manufactured before January 1, 1973, MAY NOT EMIT contaminants of a shade or density darker than 40% opacity, except while the engine is being brought up to operating temperature."

Only report vehicles that were seen emitting visible exhaust smoke in Salt Lake County.
