Communicable Disease ControlCommunicable disease (CD) staff is designated to prevent the spread of reportable communicable diseases. They interview people diagnosed with diseases and investigate to determine the source of infections and provide interventions to stop additional cases. These cases include but are not limited to respiratory infections such as “whooping cough” and TB, foodborne illnesses such as salmonella and hepatitis A, and bloodborne diseases like AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases. CD may then make intervention recommendations that include examinations, education regarding the disease and how it is transmitted, exclusion from school or work, medication for contacts, and/or public notification. The CD staff also provides education and information to the community as necessary to avert outbreaks and misinformation.For further information call (801) 534-4600 during weekdays, or (801) 558-0407 after hours. Tuberculosis ClinicTuberculosis control measures are provided by the SLVHD at the City Office,
610 So. 200 East. Screening tests at $15.00 are available at all immunization
clinics on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Screening is recommended
for anyone who has had close contact with someone with active TB and those
who have traveled or lived in countries that have high incidence of TB.
Chest x-rays at $50.00 are performed at the city center to those with positive
screening tests. Preventive medication is offered at no charge to clients
who have TB infection and no evidence of disease. For those diagnosed with
active TB, x-rays, laboratory testing, medical treatment, case management
and contact tracing is provided at no charge by the tuberculosis department.
TB clinic is held twice a month for those diagnosed with active disease
or suspect disease only. Air flow in the TB clinic is separate from the
rest of the city clinics and is designed to protect staff and clients from
