The Value of Immunizations
Immunizations have eliminated many of the most devastating diseases of childhood and adolescence. In countries where vaccines are given routinely, such as the United States, these potentially deadly diseases had been virtually eliminated. However, there are diseases we thought were gone, that are coming back, as some children remain under-immunized.
When parents stop getting their children immunized outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases, such as measles and whooping cough occur. The recent resurgence of whooping cough is an example of what happens when vaccination rates go down.
